Istanbul to Host Spanish Super Cup 2027 Due to Scheduling Clash with Asian Cup, Says RFEF Chief

- On Thursday, the Turkish Football Federation announced the Spanish Super Cup will be held in Istanbul from February 2-7, 2027, with Spanish football federation president Rafael Louzan and Saudi Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz attending the launch event.
- Scheduling conflicts with the Asian Cup drove the decision to relocate the tournament, rather than regional security concerns, according to Louzan. Negotiations began before recent regional tensions arose.
- Financial terms will remain broadly consistent with the existing arrangement, with "some improvements," Louzan said. He thanked Besiktas, Galatasaray, and Fenerbahce for providing necessary stadiums and infrastructure.
- Major Spanish clubs including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Real Sociedad, and Atletico Madrid are satisfied with the arrangement. The federation has staged the tournament in Saudi Arabia for years under its partnership with Sela.
- "This year, the alliance between Turkey and Saudi Arabia has also allowed us to come here," Louzan said. Talks are under way to extend the agreement with Sela and Saudi authorities beyond 2030.
