The co-founder of the Action for Change party and founder of SOS Slaves, an NGO working to eradicate slavery in Mauritania, died on Thursday in Nouakchott.
Boubacar Ould Messaoud, figure of the anti-slavery struggle in Mauritania, died on Thursday 12 March at the age of 80. He had founded SOS Slaves, which works for the eradication of slavery in Mauritania and support for the reintegration of the victims of slavery into society in 1995. The organization had operated for years without official recognition, before obtaining legal status in 2005.
