Soderbergh To Finish "The Batman Part II" Filming
Steven Soderbergh will finish the final weeks of principal photography as Reeves remains in communication and the sequel stays set for a February 2028 release.
Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh is stepping in to complete principal photography on The Batman Part II while director Matt Reeves addresses an ongoing family matter, Variety confirmed.
Production on the sequel paused earlier this month as Reeves attended to personal circumstances, with DC Studios providing full support for Soderbergh to complete the final weeks of filming.
Soderbergh called Reeves' work "stunning" and "rigorously coherent," and will collaborate with cast including Robert Pattinson, Scarlett Johansson, and Sebastian Stan to ensure new footage integrates seamlessly.
Warner Bros and DC Studios have navigated unexpected director changes before; Zack Snyder was replaced by Joss Whedon on Justice League, and Richard Donner by Richard Lester on Superman.
The film remains on track for its scheduled Feb 18, 2028 release; Reeves will retain his role and take over post-production duties once he is ready to return.
