Wildfire destruction mounts in B.C. Interior, structures lost on 120 more properties
The wildfire has burned more than 1,150 square kilometres as Edmonson stayed to protect her ranch after evacuation orders, officials said.
- Barb Edmonson stayed behind to protect Firefly Ranch in Clinton as the Pear Lake wildfire threatened her property, defying an official evacuation order issued for the area.
- The Pear Lake wildfire now covers 124,656 hectares, impacting 120 properties in Clinton and Electoral Area E while forcing evacuations across 70 Mile House, Green Lake, and the Chasm area.
- Eleven structures destroyed included historic 1896 ranch buildings and this year's hay crop as Edmonson fought to save her arena amidst a vortex of ash. "It was like being in a hurricane," Edmonson said.
- Responding to the Big Bar Complex, which encompasses the Pear Lake fire, are 238 firefighting personnel, 24 helicopters, and about 100 additional staff from Mexico supporting suppression efforts.
- Weather conditions are expected to warm later this week, with the BC Wildfire Service forecasting that fire behaviour will likely increase as dry fuels become more receptive to burning.
