Massive India train derailment kills over 280 people, hundreds injured
- More than 280 people were killed and hundreds injured in one of India's deadliest rail crashes in decades when two passenger trains derailed in eastern India, just south of Kolkata, on Friday night.
- Rescuers worked overnight recovering bodies and freeing survivors from the twisted metal and broken glass, using cutting torches to break open doors and windows. The cause of the crash is under investigation, but despite government efforts to improve rail safety, several hundred accidents occur every year on India's railways, the largest train network under one management in the world.
