Mark Colson named ATA’s next president and CEO
Colson, who has led the Alabama Trucking Association since 2019, will become ATA’s 10th president as the group seeks stronger industry advocacy.
On Thursday, October 15, the American Trucking Associations announced Mark Colson as its next president and CEO, effective December 1, 2026, succeeding Chris Spear who departed abruptly on August 21.
Colson's experience within the ATA federation includes chairing the task force that developed the 'Trucking Resurgence' action plan in December 2025 to close regulatory gaps exploited by noncompliant carriers.
ATA Chairman Greg Hodgen praised the selection, stating, "Mark will build on that foundation, bringing fresh energy and a clear vision for advancing our industry's priorities." Colson has led the Alabama Trucking Association since 2019.
Colson will remain with the Alabama Trucking Association through November to assist the transition; the ATA convenes its Management Conference & Exhibition in Charlotte, N.C., starting today.
Incoming ATA Chairman Derek Leathers stressed the need for a unified voice as industry leaders navigate a deep freight recession. Colson aims to "fight for the issues that matter most to trucking" while advancing national advocacy priorities.
