Maria Powell, longtime activist who pushed 'privileged' Madison toward environmental justice, dead at 59

Summary by Ground News
Maria Powell co-founded the Madison Environmental Justice Organization in 2005. She died Saturday of a pancreatic cancer she believed was at least partially caused by childhood exposure to toxins in her native Green Bay. Powell helped focus official attention on PFAS contamination in Madison, much of which stems from former industrial pollution.
