Manchester United update drops on Michael Carrick's future, with INEOS stance revealed
The owners are said to back Carrick as United have won only 2 of their first 9 matches and remain winless in five.
- On Tuesday, Manchester United manager Michael Carrick faced fresh scrutiny following a defeat to Atletico Madrid, extending the club's winless streak to five matches with just two victories since the season began.
- After securing the permanent job following a successful interim period, Carrick's side has stumbled at Old Trafford, with supporters booing the team off the pitch after dropping points to 10-man Tottenham Hotspur.
- David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that owners remain "right behind" Carrick despite him being "under pressure." Defender Lisandro Martinez publicly questioned technical director Jason Wilcox over summer transfer shortcomings.
- Reports suggest Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler is a leading candidate to replace Carrick, with the club having earmarked the German manager as a potential successor should results fail to improve soon.
- While Hurzeler has done "great" at Brighton, former player Scholes noted that Manchester United's scrutiny differs fundamentally; previous managers have ultimately "paid the price" when poor runs occurred at the club.
