Man who fatally stabbed stepfather and family dog for 'thrill', jailed for life
Procter admitted the killings and received a life sentence with a minimum term of 20 years and 10 months, judge said.
On Friday, Judge Shaun Smith sentenced Logan Procter to life in prison with a minimum term of 20 years and 10 months for murdering his stepfather, Christopher Owen, and their family dog, Poppy.
Driven by a desire to feel "unique," Procter used two knives to inflict more than 70 wounds on Owen and 15 stab injuries to the Jack Russell, Poppy, during the October 22 attack in their Shirebrook home.
Prosecutor Maryam Syed told Derby Crown Court that Procter maintained "extreme calmness" during a 999 call after the incident and possessed "kill lists" with weapons including Samurai swords at Valley Road.
Alison Owen, who lost both her partner and son, stated her son had "never shown any form of anger or violence in all his life," while Judge Smith called the attack "brutal, sustained and frenzied."
Defending Procter, Clive Stockwell KC described him as a "vulnerable young man" due to mental health difficulties diagnosed after remand, while Detective Inspector Kane Martin noted the motive remains unknown despite Procter's guilty plea.
