Man proposes to partner after walking 96 miles in 36 hours in memory of her son
The challenge raised more than £3,000 for Together for Short Lives and ended with Ward proposing at the Fort William finish line.
On Sunday, Benjamin Ward, 44, from Falkirk, proposed to partner Natasha Goldthorpe, 37, from Irvine, at the West Highland Way finish line in Fort William after completing his 96-mile charity trek.
Ward completed the route in memory of Liam, Goldthorpe's son who died from BPAN last October, to support Together for Short Lives, a UK-wide charity that assisted the family.
Facing heavy rain and darkness, Ward finished the 96-mile trail in 36 hours and 48 minutes, walking about 30 miles overnight and recalling it "didn't stop raining once."
Goldthorpe said it was "great" to see him jog across the finish line and propose, though she could not stop laughing; the challenge raised more than £3,000 for charity.
Having walked the trail last August for charity, Ward noted that proposing in Fort William a year later felt right, establishing meaningful history at the location for the couple.
