MONROE, N.C. – A 59-year-old man is dead after a house fire in Monroe early Sunday morning, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office. It happened around 3 a.m. at a home on Secrest Shortcut Road. Deputies arrived at the scene with half the home engulfed in flames and heavy smoke throughout.
