Man in critical condition after suspected homophobic attack in Bristol
Police say the assault is being treated as a hate crime as detectives seek witnesses and CCTV footage.
- On Friday, April 24, a man in his thirties was found unconscious on St Nicholas Street in Bristol with significant facial injuries. He remains in a critical but stable condition.
- Following an account from a second victim who sustained minor injuries, Avon and Somerset Police are investigating the possibility of a homophobic motivation behind the attack. The second victim did not require hospital treatment.
- Three or four men, one wearing a blue jacket and others dressed in black or grey, carried out the assault before fleeing on foot and driving away in a car. Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the offenders.
- Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Keith Smith briefed local LGBTQ leaders and Stand Against Racism & Inequality on the investigation. Police stated there is no evidence to suggest a wider risk to the public.
