Mass. man charged after 96 animals found dead, MSPCA says
- Andrew Sebastiano of Marlborough, Massachusetts, was arrested on March 25 and arraigned in Dudley District Court on March 26, facing nearly 200 counts, including 96 counts of animal cruelty , after authorities discovered 96 dead animals on a Sturbridge property he was renting.
- Sebastiano's charges stem from the discovery of deceased chickens, geese, pigs, ducks, and rabbits on March 19 at the rented property, weeks after he had reportedly left the premises.
- In addition to the deceased animals, authorities seized one adult dog from the property, which is now under the care of the MSPCA.
- Sebastiano was previously convicted of animal cruelty in 2021 and sentenced to probation, and is now being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for April 1.
- Sturbridge Police Chief Earl Dessert described the case as "an extremely disturbing case of animal cruelty, none like I have seen in my career," and the MSPCA is supporting a proposal on Beacon Hill to ban those convicted of animal cruelty from owning animals for at least five years.
