Man Pleads Not Guilty to ‘Racist’ Murder of Scientist in Dundee
Prosecutors say the killing was aggravated by prejudice, and the defense is seeking a mental health report before the January 2028 trial.
Kyler Rattray, 21, appeared at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday, October 12, and pleaded not guilty to the murder of Dr. Fortune Gomo on South Road on July 5, 2025.
Prosecutors claim the murder was aggravated by prejudice relating to race, nationality, or ethnicity under the Hate Crime and Public Order Act cited in the indictment.
Defense attorney Iain Paterson KC instructed Professor Baron-Cohen to assess whether Rattray has autism, which might link to a mental health defense regarding diminished responsibility.
Lady Hood set the trial for January 2028 at the High Court in Dundee, with proceedings spanning an eight-day period.
Remembered as a 'highly valued' Scottish Water scientist from Zimbabwe, Dr. Gomo's death caused 'great shock' throughout Dundee, according to Police Scotland.
