Man charged in Utah killings wanted victims’ cars and money to get home, prosecutors allege
Ivan W. Miller, 22, confessed to killing three Utah women to steal vehicles and money for his return to Iowa, authorities said after a multi-state manhunt.
- Ivan W. Miller, 22, of Blakesburg, Iowa, was charged Thursday with three counts of aggravated murder after authorities said he killed three women in Wayne County on Wednesday.
- Prosecutors say Miller told investigators he killed to steal vehicles and cards to get back to Iowa and that he `had to be done` but disliked doing it after hitting an elk, selling his truck, and staying in hotels and a shed.
- License-Plate readers and vehicle-tracking services tracked the stolen car from the trailhead near the Cockscomb Trail into Pagosa Springs, Colorado, leading to Miller’s arrest.
- Miller remains detained in Colorado on weapons charges and faces extradition and an expected Friday court appearance.
- Multiple agencies including the Utah State Bureau of Investigation, the Utah Crime Lab and the FBI are processing two crime scenes as investigators continue to seek clues, while authorities said there are no ongoing threats in Wayne County, population about 2,500.
