Man Charged After Six Women Groped in Airdrie, Calgary Stores
RCMP say the 30-year-old suspect was identified after repeated incidents at Airdrie stores and two similar Calgary cases.
- On Thursday, Airdrie RCMP arrested Shawn Thompson, 30, and charged him with six counts of sexual assault following incidents at retail stores in Airdrie and Calgary.
- The assaults began on Aug. 12 at an Airdrie Walmart, with investigators using surveillance footage to identify consistent physical characteristics and a red SUV used across all six incidents.
- Airdrie RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve Brown said the detachment investigated "a series of sexual assaults" where the suspect allegedly grabbed women's buttocks while shopping before fleeing without confrontation.
- Thompson was released on conditions and must appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Airdrie on Oct. 1, while police continue offering support to identified victims.
- Investigators believe additional victims may exist and are urging anyone affected to contact Airdrie RCMP, stating "If you believe you are a victim or have any information regarding any of the noted investigations, please call us.
