Liverpool Fan Accused of Abusing Antoine Semenyo Taken to Hospital During Trial
On Wednesday, the trial of Mark Mogan continued at Liverpool Magistrates' Court regarding allegations of racist abuse directed at footballer Antoine Semenyo during an August 15, 2025, match at Anfield.
Prosecutors allege that during the Premier League game, Mogan shouted racist insults and threw chewing gum at Semenyo, then playing for Bournemouth, as he prepared for a throw-in about 30 minutes into the match.
Prosecutor Simon Jones described the defendant in an "agitated and angry state," while witnesses Neil Sherratt and Nicholas Collins testified Mogan became "very cocky and brazen." Mogan claimed Semenyo called him "a cripple."
Mogan, who uses a wheelchair, suffered a seizure during Wednesday's lunch break; District Judge Mary Dowrick refused to proceed in his absence after prosecutors argued he "clearly lied" in his police interview.
The trial involving Racially Aggravated Section 5 Public Order charges is expected to continue at a later date, with Semenyo, now at Manchester City, scheduled to provide evidence via videolink.
