NORTHERN VIRGINIA, JUN 25 – Hamed Ramadan Bayoumy Aly Marie pled guilty after kicking a CBP detector dog that found over 100 pounds of prohibited food; he was sentenced to time served and deported.
- Hamed Ramadan Bayoumy Aly Marie, a 70-year-old man from Egypt, admitted to kicking Freddie, a Customs and Border Protection beagle, during an incident earlier this week at the airport serving Washington, D.C.
- The assault took place after Freddie identified more than 100 pounds of undeclared and banned agricultural items hidden in Marie’s baggage arriving from Cairo.
- Officials stated Marie kicked Freddie so forcefully the 25-pound dog was lifted off the ground and later treated for contusions to his right front rib area.
- Christine Waugh, CBP's Washington area port director, stated that harming any member of their team affects them all, highlighting their strong dependence on K9 officers like Freddie.
- Marie was sentenced to time served, ordered to pay $840 for veterinary care, and deported to Egypt on Thursday afternoon as directed by the court.
