Majority of working parents say they take care of work-related tasks when they’re with their kids
Pew found 54% of working parents say balancing work and family is difficult, and only 24% report high telework flexibility.
A Pew Research Center survey of 2,242 U.S. working parents conducted between March 2-15 found that 70% regularly juggle family and job duties, with boundaries between work and family life increasingly blurred.
More than half of working parents said balancing work and family obligations is difficult, while about half reported their job makes it harder to be a good parent.
Mothers are significantly more likely to report handling parenting duties during work hours, with 81% doing so at least sometimes, compared with 62% of mothers finding balance difficult.
Six in 10 respondents believe they spend too little time with their children, with nearly half missing important events such as school performances and sports games due to work.
While most parents say working from home would be helpful, only 24% report having high flexibility to telework. Lower-income parents face additional strain, lacking paid leave or employer-provided benefits.
