However, Apple has been reluctant to allow iPads to run macOS, and it’s willing to explain why. In an interview this week with Swiss tech journalist Rafael Zeier, Apple’s chief software engineer Craig Federighi said that the new Mac-like features in iPadOS 26 strike a good balance between productivity and simplicity. He also added that macOS isn’t optimized for touchscreens, though rumors suggest that could change one day.
