The Nobel Peace Prize winner relies on US support. Managing President Rodríguez, however, does not want to set a date.
Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado called for elections next year in her first public statements since returning to the country. Interim President Delcy Rodriguez had previously announced elections, but said reforms were needed first, foreign news agencies reported.
Machado said that the democratic transition in the oil country is "irreversible" and that a sign that this process is progressing is his presence in the country, after being ten months away after leaving for Oslo to collect the Nobel Prize.
Machado spoke this Thursday at his first press conference since he returned to his country after more than 10 months in exile.
