M&S reveals 500 new potential locations including in Merseyside
M&S plans over 20 new or renewed UK food stores this year, aiming to double its Food business with 500 sites identified, creating around 800 jobs, the company said.
- Recently, Marks & Spencer published a list of 500 UK locations it is considering for new or modernised M&S Food stores, including Yorkshire towns like Bingley, Ilkley, Scarborough and Doncaster.
- Strong performance of new Food stores prompted M&S, with stores opened in the last three years outperforming expectations and backed by a £650m UK investment in 2025.
- Site criteria emphasise trading space and parking, with M&S targeting sites delivering 18,000sqft trading space, extended ranges, wider aisles, and larger car parks for families.
- With immediate openings scheduled, M&S will open more than 20 stores before year-end, creating around 800 new jobs and accelerating rollout across its more than 220 full-line and 310 Food stores.
- Looking further ahead, M&S aims to grow Food stores to around 420 by 2028, while Aldi plans to open 16 stores before Christmas 2025.
