On Wednesday, Laurent Wauquiez announced that he would cut regional grants at the University of Lyon 2. In the midst of a campaign for the presidency of his party, the "special adviser" of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region would hit hard on a presidency hard hit by a month of crisis and particularly targeted by death threats.

The higher institution has been in turmoil since people with masked faces intruded into a course and accused a teacher of "racist" and "Zionist." Hizbullah's favourable remarks attributed to a vice-president were also reported to the judiciary.
