Luke Raley and Mitch Garver Homer to Lead Mariners over Astros
Mitch Garver hit his first homer of the season, and Luis Castillo allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings as Seattle finished its road trip with a win.
On Thursday, the Seattle Mariners defeated the Houston Astros 8-3, with Luke Raley and Mitch Garver hitting home runs to secure a series victory and close their road trip.
The win came hours after starting catcher Cal Raleigh landed on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain, forcing Garver to step into the starting role.
Luis Castillo earned his first win of the season, pitching 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts on a season-high 108 pitches to overcome early command issues.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson recalled catcher Jhonny Pereda to address Raleigh's absence, while Garver stated, "We have to be able to win games, and Jhonny and I can hold down the fort."
The Mariners return home to host the San Diego Padres on Friday while holding a 7-1 record against the Astros this season.
Luke Raley connected a three-run home run, Mitch Garver added his first quadrangular of the season, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Houston Astros on Thursday 8-3.
