Love, larceny and a little white lie: How a groom's buddies busted a felonious wedding crasher
Off-duty deputies tracked the suspect and recovered the stolen drinks and speakers, allowing the couple to marry as planned, authorities said.
A Washington wedding day nearly derailed when a thief stole Bluetooth speakers and alcohol, but off-duty authorities in the wedding party recovered the stolen items before the ceremony.
Groom Alex Morris struggled to keep the theft secret from his fiancée, Kathryn, before their wedding of 260 guests. "Kathryn cannot know what's going on," he said.
Security cameras captured a Jeep driving through the grounds, enabling authorities to track the suspect with three hours before the ceremony. "Do you think you can get those back by 2 p.m.?" Morris asked.
The couple exchanged vows while authorities read rights to the 55-year-old local man. By the cake cutting, the case was closed; Kathryn later forgave the "little white lie."
Authorities charged the suspect with second-degree theft. "It's a great story that we're going to be able to tell for years to come," Morris said.
