The Lotus Type 135 Is Real, It's Got a Hybrid V-8, and It Will Make Around 1000 HP
Lotus says the Type 135 will use a hybrid V-8 with at least 986 horsepower and will be an all-new car.
Lotus teased the upcoming Type 135, a new V8-powered hybrid supercar scheduled for release in 2028, marking the brand's first road-going V8 since the Esprit concluded production more than 20 years ago.
Reflecting a strategic pivot, Lotus Group CEO Qingfeng Feng introduced the "Focus 2030" plan to shift the brand toward hybrid powertrains, addressing recent financial challenges after the company "did act too fast."
The upcoming hybrid drivetrain will produce at least 725kW, with the brand claiming the powertrain will make "more than 1000 PS," positioning the vehicle against rivals like the Lamborghini Revuelto.
Regarding assembly, Lotus says production is expected to take place in Europe, though Feng nominated the company's headquarters in Hethel, England, as "the best option" amid supply chain complexities.
Under the Focus 2030 initiative, the company aims to return annual sales to 30,000 vehicles, with further details on the supercar expected later this year.
Lotus is preparing a new hybrid supercar of more than 1,000 hp expected for 2028. Surprise: the British brand temporarily abandons its electric dream and emerges a good old V8.
