Early Monday morning (August 3), an accident occurred on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). A train bound for Manhattan struck a large tree that had fallen onto the tracks near Smithtown on Long Island. The accident resulted in injuries to the train driver, who was taken to the hospital. Multiple trains on the Port Jefferson Branch line were canceled and delayed.
