Londoners Toss Out More Single-Use Toiletries than Anywhere Else in the UK
A Fussy poll of 2,000 adults found 64% of London residents throw bathroom plastics in the bin, the highest rate in the UK.
A OnePoll survey of 2,000 adults found London residents are the worst offenders for bathroom plastic waste, discarding an average of four single-use toiletries monthly, with 64 per cent binning them rather than recycling.
Nationally, toothpaste tubes, razors, and shampoo bottles remain the most commonly discarded plastics, despite 61 per cent expressing concern about waste. After London, the North West and West Midlands rank as the next biggest offenders, binning nearly three items monthly.
Awareness remains a hurdle, as 25 per cent do not realize bathroom essentials can be swapped for reusable alternatives. Of those regularly discarding plastics, 22 per cent cite convenience over sustainability, while 16 per cent find recycling difficult.
Fussy launched its "Don't Be a T*sser" campaign to highlight these habits and promote affordable alternatives. CEO Matt Kennedy stated many consumers simply do not know what can be recycled or that refillable options exist.
Lower cost remains the primary driver for switching, with 62 per cent of consumers citing price as motivation. Investor Deborah Meaden supports the campaign, calling the scale of bathroom plastic waste "staggering, and far too often it goes unnoticed.
