German Police Say 2 Men Turned Themselves in After Smashing Their Car Into an Airport Fence
Police said the car was seized and the investigation continues after a fence breach revived concerns over a separate August drone attack.
On Sunday Oct, two men turned themselves in to German Police after their car crashed through a security fence at Leipzig Airport in Schkeuditz, Germany, the previous night.
Initial evidence suggested a vehicle ploughed through the fence along a publicly accessible road around 2300 CET on Saturday. Emergency teams searching the airport grounds found no intruders.
The individuals, aged 20 and 32, surrendered to Police. The younger man admitted through a lawyer to losing control of the car, which he drove without a driver's license.
Police have seized the vehicle while the investigation continues. The 32-year-old admitted ownership of the car but provided no further details regarding the incident.
This security incident raised concerns following an attack at Leipzig over the summer that Germany attributed to Russia, an allegation Moscow denied. The drone attack heightens sensitivity around any airport perimeter breach.
