Liverpool Ramp up Iraola Move as Formal Talks Begin over Slot Replacement
Liverpool opened formal talks with Andoni Iraola to replace Arne Slot, who was dismissed on Saturday. The 43-year-old Spaniard has emerged as the clear frontrunner for the Anfield managerial vacancy.
Sporting director Richard Hughes is leading the search, relying on his prior connection with Iraola from their time at Bournemouth three years ago. The club seeks swift appointment to restore their preferred playing style.
Before Bournemouth, where he finished 12th, ninth, and then sixth, Iraola managed Rayo Vallecano. Liverpool view him as the ideal candidate to implement the aggressive football style missing during last season's fifth-place finish.
While Liverpool are also considering "Pierre Sage and Stuttgart," Iraola remains the preferred option. The club has yet to approach potential backroom staff, including links to Thiago Alcantara, pending advanced negotiations.
Since leaving Bournemouth, Iraola held talks with Milan, Crystal Palace, and Bayer Leverkusen. He is now edging closer to a move to Merseyside as Liverpool finalize their managerial transition.
Liverpool is said to have started discussions with Andoni Iraola, the former Bournemouth coach. Spanishman could take over from Arne Slot, who was dismissed this Saturday after two seasons on the Reds bench.
