US President Trump Honors 9/11 Heroes at Steel Across America Memorial
The 16,900-pound beam has drawn thousands to 35 events as the foundation seeks to keep 9/11 memories and lessons alive.
- To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the terror attacks, Stephen Siller Jr. spent four months transporting a 16,900-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center to dozens of U.S. cities via the "Steel Across America" campaign.
- The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, started by Frank Siller, honors his brother Stephen Siller, one of 343 New York City Fire Department members killed on 9/11 who ran to the South Tower to help after hearing the call.
- At 35 events, thousands of Americans touched the beam to "feel the loss and sacrifice that was made that day," Frank Siller told ABC News. The beam represents "resilience, strength, but also sacrifice," he added.
- Siller Jr., who was nine months old when his father died, emphasized educating younger generations about the day's sacrifices. "It's important that that lesson is taught to these kids," he said.
- The tour culminates ahead of the 25th anniversary on Friday, September 11. ABC News will broadcast "9/11 Tribute in Light: Live from Lower Manhattan" at 8:00 p.m. EDT across multiple platforms.
