LIV Says Decision on Wind-Down or 2.0 Model Due by Month-End
Lawyers said the tour expects a decision by month’s end as players seek clarity on contracts, payouts and possible returns to other circuits.
On Wednesday, an attorney for the LIV Golf League told a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge that a decision on whether to wind down operations or proceed with LIV 2.0 will be made by month's end.
Tensions escalated after DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings announced golfers cannot compete on both circuits next season, prompting LIV attorney Rob Fitzgerald to call the move a "clear attempt to interfere" with restructuring.
Judge Michael Kaplan approved an amended restructuring agreement where BC Partners will provide up to $300 million in financing for LIV 2.0, including an initial $4 million loan to maintain Chapter 11 operations.
The court authorized LIV Golf to reject 19 existing player contracts, and former world number one Jon Rahm has already decided to quit the circuit, robbing it of one of its biggest stars.
While LIV promotes "player freedom" as its foundation, Kinnings insists golfers must choose between tours, forcing players to decide what matters most and potentially leaving the circuit without additional star names.
