Lieutenant Governor mourns loss of lives in Poonch road accident
Police said a child was among the three injured and one victim remained critical after the vehicle plunged into a roadside ditch.
- On Wednesday, a vehicle accident in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir killed six people and injured three others when a Maruti Eeco veered off the road into a ditch.
- The vehicle was traveling toward Seri Chouhana village in Sheldhar, Surankote, when the driver lost control around 5.30 p.m., causing it to plunge into a roadside ditch.
- Victims included Mohd Shafiq, Nazakat Hussain, Sheraz Ahmed, Mohd Fareed, Musarat Naz, and Zulfat Bi. Five-year-old Irshan Ahmed was among the injured and referred to Government Medical College for specialized treatment.
- The 108 ambulance service and police teams launched immediate relief operations at the site. Poonch Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma told PTI, "An unfortunate accident occurred this evening, resulting in on-the-spot death of six persons and injuries to three others."
- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed anguish over the tragedy, directing the district administration to provide immediate assistance to all affected families.
