Lidl Sales Surge 10 in ‘Record-Breaking’ Christmas
Lidl's UK sales rose 10% with nearly 51 million shoppers and a 28% jump in loyalty scheme membership, driving over £1.1 billion turnover before Christmas.
- On December 23, Lidl reported a 10% surge in sales after nearly 51 million customers shopped in the festive run-up.
- Lidl said the Lidl Plus loyalty scheme saw a 28% jump in active members in November, while promotional lines like Comte de Senneval Champagne drove a 260% sales increase.
- In the final week before Christmas Eve, Lidl said it sold 11,000 tonnes of seasonal produce, up 70% year-on-year, and moved 30 million mince pies from September onwards.
- Mr McDonnell added Lidl will open around 40 shops over 2025, growing to more than 1,000 stores in the UK, while Worldpanel experts say it could overtake Morrisons in the coming months.
- The figures fire the starting gun on festive trading updates, with supermarket giants Tesco and Sainsbury's and retailers Next and Marks & Spencer due next week.
