Liberty’s Chadwell Eyes a Conference USA Rebound After Surgery and a 4-8 Stumble
Chadwell says Liberty is healthier and focused on ending a one-year slide after four losses by double digits in 2025.
Liberty coach Jamey Chadwell is targeting a Conference USA title this season, aiming to rebound after the Flames stumbled to a 4-8 record in 2025.
Last year's 4-8 finish was frustrating, Chadwell said, acknowledging he was the main reason the team struggled. Four losses came by double digits, while four others were decided by a touchdown or less.
The Liberty coach underwent surgery in January for a "serious but treatable medical condition." Chadwell says he now feels his best since 2023, his first season with the program.
Western Kentucky coach Tyson Helton noted the conference's "tremendous parity," where games often came down to the final drive. Liberty will try to become the fourth different champion in four years.
As Louisiana Tech leaves for the Sun Belt Conference and UTEP heads to the Mountain West, the 10-team league remains wide open. Liberty aims to reclaim championship form from its 13-1 season.
