Liberty Mitchell jailed for causing crash that killed two people
- On Friday, Gloucester Crown Court jailed Liberty Mitchell for six years and eight months, and she must serve half of her sentence behind bars before eligibility for release on licence.
- On December 2 2022, a four-vehicle crash occurred on the B4425 near Aldsworth after Liberty Mitchell, 18 at the time, drove at 96mph and attempted to overtake three vehicles at once.
- Prosecutors said Mitchell was charged with causing the death of taxi driver Octavian Codreanu and school teacher Moyra Whelan, and seriously injured three others, who were taken to regional hospitals.
- Katy-Louise Whelan told the court her family is devastated and incredulous Moyra is gone, while families and survivors described lasting trauma and survivor's guilt after the collision.
- Court heard Mitchell was self-employed cleaner travelling between holiday cottages in the area, and officials said the collision has irrevocably changed victims' families and local community.
