LG Display becomes world's first to mass-produce 1-120Hz laptop panel
LG Display's Oxide 1Hz panel cuts power use by over 48%, extending Dell XPS laptop battery life and supporting rising AI workload demands.
- Yesterday, LG Display began mass production of a 1Hz to 120Hz LCD laptop panel for Dell's XPS series in Seoul, South Korea.
- The company developed proprietary circuit algorithms and panel design and applied an oxide with very low power leakage to TFTs, enabling 48% longer single-charge use for mobile laptop consumers.
- The panel intelligently detects usage and automatically switches its refresh rate between 1Hz for still tasks such as checking emails and reading e-books and up to 120Hz for streaming video and games.
- With a global production footprint and about 70,707 employees, LG Display operates manufacturing sites in Korea and China, supporting large-scale production for laptop panels. The company says extending battery life will benefit laptop users.
- LG displays it will apply Oxide 1Hz to OLED panels and says it could reduce usage-phase emissions by up to 10%.
