Letters to the Editor for December 17, 2025
- On December 17, 2025, a column warned that a Bill would restructure MGNREGA, shifting nearly 40% of funding burden to States and renaming it the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission Bill.
- States differ vastly in fiscal capacity, and transferring nearly 40% of expenditure without assured revenue devolution risks hollowing out the programme where rural beneficiaries need it most, critics say.
- MGNREGA's founders framed it as a 100-day guarantee, but commentators say that promise has eroded and become politicised, urging welfare schemes be preserved and improved rather than rebranded.
- The Finance Commission was urged to spell out compensatory devolution measures, as commentators warned poorer States could face uneven fiscal pressure affecting rural livelihoods without safeguards.
- Observers warn the move threatens cooperative federalism and programme credibility, prompting calls for Parliamentary Standing Committee scrutiny amid the national debate following December 17, 2025 commentary.

I like to also include a poem in each card. This year, I traveled to Maine, and the lighthouses inspired me to compare their gui…
Rolf Becker was a wonderful actor with a backbone and a basic political conviction, for which he also publicly advocated. This is not very widespread in his industry.

Being a part of the Valley Times newspaper is so fun. I feel like I have a voice in the valley and people are listening. I want all the people working alongside me to feel that way, as well. The kids working alongside me are homeschooled and are full of creativity and are excited to share it with you. What we want at the Valley Times is to reach as many people as we can and make them smile. I’m so...

Ellen and Les Trimm probably are spinning in their graves. They were friends of my parents, and were the last private owners of the beautiful home at 1269 Hyde Park Rd. Ellen was hoping it would be converted to a church when they sold, but a restaurant was the outcome.
