Leicestershire Police said the two-year-old boy who fell into the River Soar was with family members when he entered the water. Assistant Chief Constable Michaela Kerr said a person, understood to be the boy’s father, had been treated in hospital as a precautionary measure after entering the water to attempt a rescue. The operation is ongoing and will continue with “additional specialist teams” on Monday morning, the force said.
