LEGO Unveils 13 New SMART Play Pokémon Sets that You Can Pre-Order Ahead of Their Release
The line extends Lego Smart Play beyond Star Wars and includes 12 sets with interactive battle, training and feeding features.
- On Tuesday at SXSW London, Lego announced a new Pokémon range expanding its Smart Play ecosystem, featuring 12 interactive sets arriving August 1 with prices ranging from $15 to $120.
- Lego Group chief product and marketing officer Julia Goldin cited an 80% overlap between Lego and Pokémon fandoms as the collaboration rationale, with sets utilizing a sensor-packed Smart Brick for interactive sounds and behaviors.
- The collection features two all-in-one playsets with a Smart Brick and 10 smaller compatible sets. Jill Lin, Lego head of interaction design, said the goal is ensuring "the analog playset is wonderful to start with."
- All 12 sets are available for pre-order now, though shipping begins in August; Lego advises customers to act fast after previous Pokémon set releases reportedly crashed company websites.
- This marks Lego's second major Smart Play partnership following Star Wars sets released earlier this year. Select stores will become Pokémon gyms and stops between August and September, offering exclusive digital rewards.
