The European Commission criticized Russia's elections to the State, accusing the Russian authorities of "systematic and institutionalized repression" aimed at "not allowing a democratic opposition".
The European Commission has sharply criticized the elections in Russia that began on Friday. The manner in which they are being held "underscores the ongoing and increasing erosion of democracy in Russia," a Commission spokesperson said on Friday. The Commission also condemns the "illegal organization of so-called elections by the Russian Federation in the occupied territories of Ukraine."
The European Union (EU) denounces on Friday the systematic and institutionalised repression of legislative elections in Russia during the Ukraine War, reports AFP.
Brussels accuses the Russian authorities of excluding any democratic opposition from the general election. According to one spokesman, the organisation of these elections bears witness to a "continuous and growing erosion of democracy" in the country.
