Leeds signs Bosnian defender Muharemović fouled by US forward Balogun at World Cup
Leeds said the five-year signing is meant to strengthen its defense after Muharemovic helped Sassuolo win the Serie B title.
Leeds United signed center back Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo on Friday, securing the defender on a five-year deal for a reported 40 million euros .
Muharemovic impressed during the 2025-26 campaign as Sassuolo finished 11th in Serie A, having helped the Italian side win the Serie B title in 2025 while on loan from Juventus.
During the FIFA World Cup round of 32, the Bosnia international faced the United States, where Folarin Balogun received a red card for a foul on the defender.
President Donald Trump pressured FIFA President Gianni Infantino not to suspend Balogun, who subsequently played in Belgium's 4-1 win despite the incident.
Owned by 49ers Enterprises, Leeds begins its Premier League campaign away to Nottingham Forest on August 22, with Muharemovic as the club's second permanent signing following Harry Wilson.
