Leclerc penalised for Lawson clash; Antonelli and Oliver Bearman also punished after F1 Brazilian GP
Stewards said the minor wet-weather contact let Leclerc gain position, and the penalty dropped the Ferrari driver from seventh to eighth.
Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson secured eighth place at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix after Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was demoted following a post-race five-second penalty for colliding with him during the closing laps.
FIA stewards penalized Leclerc five seconds for colliding with Lawson at Turn 12 on lap 69, ruling the contact disrupted the Racing Bulls driver and enabled an illegal overtake during the 71-lap race.
Although the contact was minor and occurred in wet conditions, officials determined Car 30 held the right to the corner under Driving Standard Guidelines, justifying a five-second penalty over a potential 10-second alternative.
Lawson compared the incident to a move by Leclerc on Alex Albon years ago, claiming the collision damaged his rear left rim and enabled the Ferrari driver to eventually overtake him.
Expressing appreciation for fan support, Lawson remains without a confirmed drive for F1 2027, stating he is focused on driving despite Racing Bulls yet to clarify its driver lineup for next season.
