LeBlanc says it’s not a ‘one-way conversation’ after G7 meeting with U.S. trade rep
LeBlanc said talks with Greer were not a one-way conversation as Canada seeks changes before July's mandatory review of the trade pact.
On Tuesday, Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc met United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in France to discuss the critical trade pact between Canada and the United States.
Earlier this month, LeBlanc and Greer met in Washington after Ottawa and Mexico City announced they seek a 16-year extension for the Mexico Agreement.
LeBlanc emphasized that trade talks are not a "one-way conversation," noting both officials reviewed Canada's progress resolving trade irritants raised by the United States.
While negotiations between Mexico and the United States have launched, Ottawa and Washington have not yet begun formal talks addressing the mandatory review of the pact.
Greer signaled caution, indicating he is not looking to rubber-stamp the trade pact, which faces a mandatory review in July.
