Six months ago, the Utrecht region was hit by the largest drinking water crisis in the Netherlands in years, caused by an intestinal bacterium in a drinking water reservoir. Water company Vitens and the municipality of Utrecht have known for six years that it is necessary to remove the 116 trees on top of that reservoir, according to research by the AD.
