Lawmakers say a Government Accountability Office report shows 99% of DOGE’s DHS savings claims were tied to canceled IT contracts still being purchased elsewhere.

- A DHS spokesperson defended the department's broader cost-cutting efforts, claiming it saved taxpayers more than $13.2 billion without cutting public safety positions. The department did not directly address the GAO's finding concerning the $10.5 billion in projected savings.

The Government Accountability Office reported that contract terminations pushed by the Department of Government Efficiency yielded a net of $92 million — much less than the Homeland Security Department’s public report of as much as $10.5 billion in potential savings.
GAO noted that a significant part of the services and goods of the completed agreements continued to be needed and was contracted through other channels.
