Colorado Parks and Wildlife Names Sole Finalist for Director

Clellan was chosen from 150 candidates for her leadership in military and wildlife roles, with a commission meeting set to confirm her appointment.

  • On Feb. 23, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission will hold a special virtual meeting to consider Laura Clellan's appointment as director; she was named sole finalist earlier this week on Feb. 6.
  • A weeks-long search reviewed around 150 candidates and produced a five-person shortlist on Jan. 29, after two review groups and ten voting members narrowed the field.
  • Having overseen 3,700 citizen soldiers, Laura Clellan's résumé includes roles at the Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Lakewood.
  • The commission will post public notice of the sole finalist for 14 days and accept comments via the Engage CPW web page before the panel votes, and if approved, Clellan would formally lead Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
  • Since then, Clellan has served as CPW's liaison with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service over wolf reintroduction accounting, disputing allegations of federal law violations involving sourcing 15 wolves from British Columbia.
