BB26-1: 718th AMXS sustains readiness as Typhoon Dolphin approaches
Airmen assigned to the 718th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron prepared HH-60W Jolly Green II helicopters and KC-135 Stratotankers for evacuation from Kadena Air Base, Japan, Aug. 3, 2026, as Typhoon Dolphin approaches Okinawa. The preparations occurred while the 18th Wing conducted exercise Beverly Beach 26-1.
Typhoon No. 13, a large and extremely powerful storm, moved westward near the Ogasawara Islands on the 3rd. The Japan Meteorological Agency predicted that it would approach the Ogasawara Islands most closely on the 4th and urged caution regarding high waves accompanied by swells and strong winds through the 5th. Depending on its path and degree of development, there is a possibility of torrential rainfall reaching warning levels.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, Typhoon No. 13, a large and extremely powerful storm, is likely to directly hit the Daito Islands on the 6th and the Okinawa main island on the 7th, potentially bringing strong winds into the area.
