La Junta’s E. coli contamination reached levels of up to 770.1 colony-forming units per 100 milliliters of water, according to city officials, which they said was more than three times the state’s 235-CFU safe swimming standard, on Sept. 6, following the Aug. 26 incident which saw approximately four million gallons of untreated, or “raw” sewage spilled into the Arkansas River near Pueblo, according to state health department data.
