Kyle Larson Eyes Second Straight NASCAR Title and Kimi Antonelli Makes F1 History – WTOP News
Larson lost only six points in a ninth-place finish and needs just nine at Homestead to secure his third Cup Series title, officials said.
William Byron won the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, while Kyle Larson failed to clinch the NASCAR Cup Series championship early. Larson maintains a commanding lead entering the November 8 finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Larson sought to become the first driver since Matt Kenseth in 2003 to clinch the championship early. NASCAR's removal of energy-absorbing foam and softened bumpers at the 0.526-mile Martinsville track complicated his path to an early title.
Both Larson and rival Denny Hamlin suffered strategy blunders by staying on track instead of pitting. Byron led 362 of 500 laps to secure his first victory of the season, beating teammate Chase Elliott by more than two seconds.
Entering the November 8 finale, Larson leads Hamlin by 73 points and Christopher Bell by 74. Larson stated he expects pressure throughout the week, though he needs only nine points at Homestead to guarantee the title.
Homestead-Miami Speedway will host the championship conclusion, where Larson has excelled with two wins in four races. Racing analytics firm Racing Insights rates him a 92.3% favorite to secure his third career Cup Series title.
